Sometimes on wedding days, along with all the good things happening, you still might see sad moments or stories occur. There might be some photographers out there who would not capture these moments. They would notice these things, they might think about what to do – but they wouldn’t take a picture. Because it might be something that wouldn’t belong to a “happy event” like a wedding normally is, for them. It’s simply not what you expect from a wedding, not what people might want to see afterwards.
One particular example would be someone who would cry out of sorrow, because a beloved person couldn’t attend the wedding, because he or she is not with them anymore. Of course, we have the same conflicts in our minds as well. Should we take a picture? In the end we always come to the same conclusion: definitely! Because these things matter as well. They are also an important part of the story, even on wedding days when everything is supposed to be all happy happy joy joy. But: life is not like that. It’s not just the happy things. A human being is not like that. The character is formed by many situations in life, the good and the bad. Sometimes we have to go through hell before we can finally breathe again. And these things won’t disappear on a wedding day, just because it’s maybe meant to.
Why are we talking about this? On the day of Carmen and Marco’s wedding, we had a situation that brought us to tears and we found ourselves thinking about these things again. But as this particular thing is a constant companion in their life, why wouldn’t we document it? We had a small conversation about whether we should capture this in our story, but then reminded ourselves what our photos are about: every story of that day. They are natural and real, and we want to document all facets of life.
This day was special for Carmen and Marco and they left us speechless when they showed everyone their love for each other, when we were allowed to witness how brave they are. These two human beings are capable of carrying a massive weight on their shoulders, but also enjoy their lives to the fullest.
Thank you for sharing your special day with us, Carmen and Marco, we really enjoyed being around you and your family. And thanks so much for choosing these beautiful locations for your wedding. We knew the “Döns” before and we do love it, but “Das Loft” was new to us and we instantly fell in love with it. Oh, and we almost forgot the delicious all-vegan catering by Alohacherie. We also loved shooting at the EAST Hotel alongside one of our favorite Hamburg based make-up artists Femke Schuh (who also appeared to be one of the grooms longest friends).
